Donna woke up with the sun in her face. She reached over and closed the blinds. She rolled over and saw that Jess was still in a deep sleep. Donna looked at her clock and saw that it was 4:00.
"How could it be sunny out at 4 in the morning?" she mumbled to herself as she burrowed under her covers. She fell back asleep, but only until she felt Jessica shaking her.
"Donna get up! It's 4:00 in the afternoon!" she exclaimed.
"No it's not," Donna said as she emerged from her comforter. "It's 4 in the morning."
"How could it be sunny out at 4 in the morning?" Jess asked.
"Oh yeah," Donna muttered. "Donna, come on! We have to get ready! We have to go next door in 3 hours," Jess said as she grabbed her overnight bag and walked to the doorway. "Can I take a shower?" she asked.
"Sure, sure. Umm..it's right down the hall." Jess left the room.
Donna reopened her blinds and squinted in the bright sunlight. She got up and turned on her t.v. to MTV. She went over to her closet and grabbed a blue, long-sleeved shirt out of her closet. She picked her cutoffs off the bottom of her closet and closed the closet door. She sat at her desk and waited for Jess to get out of the shower. A few minutes later, Jess stepped into Donna's room, fully dressed and ready to go.
"How did you get ready so fast??" Donna asked as she headed toward the door. She didn't wait for an answer. She ran down the hall and into the bathroom.
20 minutes later, she was done with her shower. She blow-dried her hair and put on her makeup. When she was finally finished, she emerged from the bathroom. She walked down the hall and into her room. Jess was sitting at her desk looking at Donna's yearbook from the past year. She turned around when she heard Donna come in.
"Jeez it's about time!" she exclaimed. "You were in there for over an hour! We have to leave soon."
"I know, I know," Donna said.
"Well, are you ready?" Jess asked.
"Yeah I think so," Donna answered as she put her sandals on and stood up. "I just have to write my mom a note, as usual." She walked over to her desk and grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil. She wrote her mom a quick note and turned around. "What time is it?" she asked.
"6:30," Jess replied.
"Well what are you rushing me for?" Donna asked. "We still have another half hour!" Donna and Jess went downstairs and sat on the couch. Donna grabbed the remote control and turned on the t.v. She switched the channel to MTV. The video for Third Eye's Blind "Semi-Charmed Life" was playing. A few seconds later, it ended and the veejay came on.
"At #2 this week that was "Semi-Charmed Life"," she said. "Which means we have a new #1 song. Now without further ado, here's the new #1 song for this week, Hanson's "MMMBop." The video began playing. Donna turned the volume up full blast and the two girls sang along.
Meanwhile, over at the Hanson house, Ike and Tay were still getting ready. They were in their bedroom along with Zac. Ike was trying to figure out which shirt to wear, Tay was trying to find his soccer ball necklace, and Zac was sitting on the bed watching them.
"Why can't I come?" he asked.
"Because," Ike said as he stood in front of the closet. "You're too young."
"Yeah Zac. You can come next time," Tay said as he got on all fours and looked under the dresser.
"It's not fair," Zac said pouting. "I want to come too." Ike pulled out a dark green shirt and put it on.
"Zac quit complaining," he said as he pulled his hair into a ponytail. "Tay, are you ready? They're going to be here any minute."
"I still can't find my necklace," Tay said as he looked under the bed. Ike joined Tay in the search, and finally Tay's necklace was found underneath a pile of clothes. Tay put his necklace on, gave his hair a quick brush, and put his shoes on.
“Okay," he said standing up. "Now I'm ready." As if on cue, the doorbell rang.
"Come on," Ike said. "That's probably them." Zac bolted out of the room and down the stairs. He ran over to where Donna and Jess were standing.
"Why can't I come?" he asked. Jess sighed.
“You can come next time Zac," she said.
"Yeah, we promise," Donna added. She spotted Ike and Tay coming down the stairs. "Hey guys!" she said.
"Hi Jess, hi Donna," Tay said.
"You ready to go?" Ike asked.
"Yep," Jess said. "But where are we going?" "Well, do you guys want to see a movie?" Ike asked.
"Sure," Donna said.
"Great. Men in Black is playing," Tay said.
"All right! I really want to see that!" Donna said.
"Well then let's go," Ike said as he grabbed the keys to his truck off the table. Tay and Jess followed Ike out the door. Donna started to, but felt something pulling her back. She turned around and saw Zac smiling.
"Zac come on," Donna said. "I have to go." Zac frowned and let go of Donna's shirt. She smiled and gave Zac a hug.
"I promise next time you can come, okay?" Zac nodded. "Good," Donna said as she walked out the door. "See you later Zac!" She walked over to the truck. Ike and Jess were in the front, and Tay was in the back. Donna opened the door and got in next to Tay. Ike pulled out of the driveway and began driving towards the mall. Donna saw that Tay was wearing sunglasses.
"Umm....Tay," she said. "It's really not that sunny out." Tay took off the glasses.
"I know. I just don't want a bunch of screaming girls to recognize me. It would kinda ruin the night."
"Oh, okay," Donna said. A few minutes later they arrived at the mall. Taylor put his sunglasses back on and everyone got out of the car. They walked across the parking lot to where the movie theatre was. The four teens went inside. Ike and Jess stepped up to the ticket booth and got their tickets. Then Donna and Tay stepped up.
"Two please," Tay said as he pulled some money out of his pocket. He got the tickets and handed one to Donna.
"Thanks," she said taking it. "Are you going to get anything to eat?"
"Well, do you like popcorn?" Tay asked her. Donna nodded. "Okay. How about we get a big tub of popcorn and share?"
"Sounds good," Donna said. "But I'll pay. It's only fair since you paid for the tickets." Tay agreed and they each also got a soda. The four teens entered the theatre where "Men in Black" was playing and found seats. A few seconds later, the movie started. Donna settled back and began watching.
After about 10 minutes, she grew hungry. So she reached over and stuck her hand into the bucket of popcorn. She felt something and grabbed it. Taylor kind of gasped and Donna realized she had grabbed his hand.
"Oops," she said as she took her hand out. "Sorry Tay."
"No problem," he said. Donna leaned back and took a sip of her coke.
About 2 hours later, the movie ended and the lights came on. Donna stood up and stretched.
"Thanks guys. That was fun," she said as they filed out of the row.
"Yeah, but we best be getting home," Ike said. "It's after 10."
"No wonder I'm so tired," Tay said yawning. The group exited the theatre and headed towards the truck. They all got in and Ike started the car. The next thing Donna knew it, Tay was shaking her shoulder.
"Donna wake up. We're home," he said. Donna opened her eyes and blinked.
"What happened?" she asked sleepily.
"You fell asleep," Tay said as he helped her out of the truck.
"Oops. I guess I was more tired than I thought," she said as she and Tay walked over to Donna's house. Donna took her key out of her pocket and unlocked the door. She turned to Tay and gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
"Thanks for everything Tay. You're a really good friend," she said. Taylor blushed furiously.
"No problem," he said.
"Well I guess I'll see you tomorrow. Goodnight." Donna watched him run across the two front yards and over to his house. Donna went inside the house and walked up the stairs to her room. She changed into a t-shirt and got into her bed. She quickly fell asleep.
