Chapter 23 of "Some Changes are Good"

About 4 hours later, the entire group returned from the press conference, exhausted.

As they approached their hotel rooms, Donna yawned and asked Taylor, "What's going on tomorrow?"

"Nothing until later in the afternoon. We have a performance at 6:30," Taylor replied.

"Oh good. I can sleep in," Donna said.

"Maybe do you want to do something tomorrow?" Taylor asked.

"Sure," Donna said. "But right now the only thing I want to do is go to bed. I'm exhausted." Taylor nodded.

"Goodnight everyone!" Diana said as they arrived at the location of their rooms. Jessica and Avery followed Donna into the room. Donna quickly changed and got into one of the beds. She waited long enough to make sure Jessica and Avery got into their bed, the went to sleep. Donna slept soundly the entire night, until she was awoken the next morning to the sound of giggling. She opened her eyes slowly and found Jessie and Avery looking at her and laughing.

"What is so funny?" Donna asked with a smile.

"Taylor left you a note," Avery said. "On your pillow." Donna looked over and spotted a small piece of paper on her pillow. She picked it up and read it. "Donna - I'm going for a walk in a little while. If you get this before 8:00, meet me outside in the hall. -Taylor"

Donna glanced at the clock on the table and saw that it was 7:50 am. She quickly got out of bed and got dressed in cutoffs and a white T-shirt. She put a gray sweatshirt on over her shirt, and put on her sneakers. After brushing her teeth and washing her face, she opened the door and stepped into the hallway. Taylor was sitting outside the door against the wall.

"Good morning Tay," Donna said as she sat beside him. "Why are you up so early?"

"Well, Zac was up all night, and I couldn't sleep. So I decided to go for a walk, and I wanted to know if you wanted to join me."

"Sure," Donna said as she stood up. "Let's go." Taylor and Donna walked side by side down the hall.

"So you didn't get any sleep last night?" Donna asked.

"Nope. Zac was EXTREMELY hyper and kept Ike and I up. He just got to sleep a little while ago."

"I wonder where that kid gets his energy," Donna remarked. "So where do you want to walk?"

"Well," Tay began. "I don't think we're allowed out of the hotel, so do you want to just roam the halls?"

"Sure," Donna said. "Say, how's Ike doing? He was pretty quiet last night."

"Well, he misses Jess a lot, and he's getting nervous. Because, you know, of the concert and everything. He usually talks to her before each show."

"That's too bad," Donna said.

"Yeah, and it gets worse. She flying to Maine tomorrow, and she'll be in the air right before we go onstage. So Ike won't be able to talk to her," Taylor said.

"Uh oh. That could be a problem," Donna said.

"Yeah," Taylor said. "We're trying to figure out what to do."

"Well, I'm sure you'll figure something out," Donna said.

"I sure hope so," Taylor said as they approached the hotel rooms.

"So what time are we all supposed to go down for breakfast?" Donna asked as she opened the door to her room.

"I think around 10:30," Taylor said.

"Ok good. I'm going to take a nap before we go. Just knock on the door a few minutes before we leave, okay?" Tay nodded.

"Sure. Oh, and uh, thanks for walking with me."

"Any time," Donna said as she stepped into the hotel room and shut the door. Jessie and Avery were sound asleep in their bed. Donna took off her sneakers and got back into her bed. She soon fell fast asleep.
