Chapter 46 of "Some Changes Are Good"

Everyone piled into Isaac's truck, and Ike pulled out of the hotel parking lot. Donna kept the kids entertained by singing songs. A little while later, the hospital building came into view. A few seconds later, Ike pulled the truck into the hospital parking lot. Donna jumped out of the truck as soon as it had stopped moving. She began running towards the hospital entrance. She heard Isaac yelling her name, but she ignored him. She wanted more than anything in the world at that point to see Taylor. She ran down the hallway until she got to the door leading to Taylor's hospital room. She calmed herself down and slowly opened the door. She found Walker and Diana standing over Taylor's bed. Taylor was awake, but not very strong. Donna walked over to the bed and looked at him. Taylor didn't seem to recognize her.

"Tay?" Donna asked in a soft voice.

"Donna," Diana began gently. "He's still a little groggy. He might not recognize you."

Donna looked Taylor in the eyes. He stared at her blankly looking confused. Donna felt the tears welling up in her eyes. Just then, the rest of the clan entered the room. Isaac opened the door and entered the room, followed by the rest of the kids.

"Is he awake?" Isaac asked as he handed Mackenzie to Diana.

"Well, he's not fully awake," she said. "But he can talk and hear. Just talk to him."

Isaac walked over to the bed and looked down at his brother.

"Hey bro," he said. "We're glad you pulled through." Taylor looked at Isaac, and then at the other strange people around him.

"Who are these people?" he asked himself. He looked at the person talking to him. He looked vaguely familiar, but Taylor couldn't remember his name.

"Well Tay," Diana said as she and Walker herded the kids towards the door. We'll be back later. We love you sweetheart." Donna hung back, still looking at Taylor. "Donna are you coming?" Diana asked. Donna shook her head.

"Id like to stay, if that's all right with you," she said.

"Of course you can stay. Walker is going to stay in the waiting room if you need anything." Donna nodded as Diana exited the room and shut the door behind her.

Donna looked over at Taylor sadly. Taylor looked at the girl standing in the corner of the room. All the other people had left. The girl walked over to him.

"Taylor, can you talk?" she asked. Taylor nodded. "Do you remember me?" she asked. Taylor looked at the girl hard and tried to remember who she was. He shook his head sadly.

"What's your name?" he asked in a raspy voice.

"Taylor, it's me, Donna. Your girlfriend." Donna looked at Taylor expectantly. He looked at her and tried to place her name with her face.

"Tell me more," he said. "Please." Donna reached over and dragged a chair next to the bed and sat down.

"Well, what do you want to know?" Donna asked.

"How did I meet you? How did you become my girlfriend? And who were those people in here before?" Taylor asked. Donna sighed.

"This is going to take a while," she thought to herself.

Donna proceeded to tell Taylor about his family, the band, how she had moved to Tulsa, and how they became friends. It took over an hour to explain everything.

"...then you were supposed to go to L.A...." Donna said.

"To be on the Conan O'Brien Show!" Taylor finished happily. "I'm remembering!"

"Everything?" Donna asked.

"Well, bits and pieces, but I know everything will come back to me eventually," he explained. There was a knock at the door.

"Come in!" Donna and Taylor said together. The door opened and Walker stepped into the room.

"Hey dad!" Taylor said. Walker looked at Taylor, and then at Donna.

"He's remembering things gradually," Donna explained quickly. "I talked to him about everything, and his memory is starting to come back." Walker smiled and walked over to his son.

"We're glad to have you back Taylor," he said.

"It's great to be back," Taylor said as he smiled at Donna.

*AUTHORS NOTE - This chapter may seem unrealistic to some of you. But this sort of thing really happened to me. When my grandfather was in the hospital, he didn't recognize anyone, or remember anything. Sadly, he passed away. But I didn't want to kill Taylor, so I tried my best to make this seem as real as possible*
